Making a Decision When You Have More than One Job Offer

As one of Miami Lakes’ top employment agencies, Future Force knows that good candidates can be hard to find for many employers. That’s why, if you’re skilled, experienced and have a great work ethic, then you’re likely in demand on the employment marketplace. And when you get not just one, but two or more job offers, you have a decision to make. How can you choose between multiple solid opportunities? Here are some tips to help you make the best decision:

Think about your goals.

Why are you looking for a new job in the first place? Is it to earn a higher salary? Gain access to better benefits? Work for a larger company with more growth? Whatever your particular goals, think about the position and the company that can best help you meet them. You can even list out your goals and create a checklist of sorts to see which opportunity best matches up.

Look at the long-term.

As you’re evaluating each position, think about the big picture too. One position might pay more to start, while another offers better prospects of on-the-job training and advancement. So in the long run, that job might prove more lucrative and a better fit for you. That’s why it’s important to look beyond just today and think about the ramifications of each position down the line, too.

Consider culture.

Many job candidates make the mistake of only evaluating the details of the job and the strength of the company when considering a job offer. But culture is just as important. If the culture of a company isn’t the right fit for you, you’re not going to be happy and successful there. So throughout the hiring process, make sure you ask questions about culture, so you can find out what it’s really like to work for the organization. And take that information into account when you’re making your final decision.

Phone a friend.

Is there someone you know who works at one of the companies? Give them a call and ask them about it. Talk to them about what they like most and least about working there, so you can gain some clear insight about whether it’s the right place for you.

Go with your gut.

If, after careful evaluation, you have a strong positive or negative feeling about one of the positions, then that should tell you something. Even if you can’t articulate a reason why you prefer one job over another, your natural instincts are kicking in and they’re often right in these kinds of situations.

Having multiple job offers is a good position to be in. However, don’t drag your feet and take too much time weighing your options. If you do, you could potentially miss out on one or both opportunities. So ask for a few days and then make your final decision.
