Applied for a Job, But Didn’t Hear Back? Here’s Why

As one of Dade County’s top employment agencies, Future Force knows that job searches are stressful. At the same time, there’s a lot of waiting around involved. And if it’s more than just waiting – to the point where you’re not hearing back at all from potential employers – it could be for any number of reasons. Here’s a look at a few of them:

You aren’t qualified for the job.

The job description called for five years of experience and you have two. Or perhaps you had the basic skills and abilities, but other candidates offered something extra. Whatever the case, many reasons for rejection during the hiring process involve the fact that you weren’t qualified for the job.

It’s ok to stretch a little and apply for a dream job that you’re slightly under-qualified for. But don’t make it a habit to apply for positions where you’re the least experienced candidate. You’ll simply waste your time in the process.

Your application or resume makes a bad impression.

Whether it’s a poorly worded application or resume, grammar mistakes, or inconsistent formatting, the bottom line is that you’re putting the wrong foot forward. Hiring managers expect neat and professional-looking resumes and applications. So make sure you check and proofread these documents carefully before submitting them.

A negative online reputation.

When it comes time to hire, many managers Google job candidates they’re considering. If they search for you and find something negative online, it can impact your ability to get an interview and get the job. That’s why, before you begin a job search, you should conduct your own search for yourself and see what comes up.

You applied late.

If the company has a cut off date of July 1st and you applied for the job on July 2nd, they probably won’t even look at your application. Same goes if you wait too long to apply for a job. If there are 300 applicants and you’re number 299, you might not get a second look.

Avoid the mistakes above so you can get noticed and start getting calls for interviews. Also, keep in mind that the #1 way to find a new job is through a personal referral. So make sure you’re reaching out to your network of friends, family and former co-workers to inquire about any job openings they know about.
