6 “Do’s” that Can Help You Ace Your Next Job Interview

As one of the leading employment agencies in Miami, Future Force knows the competition is fierce for jobs. So when it comes to the interview, you have to bring your “A” game. Otherwise, you’ll be overshadowed by other candidates who perform better. What can you do to knock it out of the park – and land the job? Start by following these few “do’s”:

#1. Do Your Homework.

Review the job posting and make a note of some relevant examples of past achievements you can talk about during the interview. Also be sure to mention any direct experience you have that correlates with the requirements of the job.

In addition, research the prospective employer ahead of time. Doing so will make you more informed as a candidate and enable you to ask more thoughtful questions as a result.

#2. Do Practice.

Practice your answers to some common interview questions ahead of time. Ask your spouse, a family member or a friend to act as the interviewer and ask you questions. Record yourself so you can see how well you performed and if there are any weak areas you need to work on.

#3. Do Follow Best Practices.

Make sure you adhere to the fundamentals of good interview practice. For instance, show up on time, dress professionally, and greet the hiring manager with a smile and firm handshake.

#4. Do Promote Yourself.

Be prepared to promote yourself – and your strengths during the interview. Also be prepared to talk about your career accomplishments and goals, what motivates you, and why the company should hire you. When answering questions, though, make sure to keep your responses short and relevant.

#5. Do Stay Positive.

Don’t blow the interview by talking negatively about you last job, boss or co-workers. The hiring manager wants to know why they should hire you, not that you and your last boss butted heads.

#6. Do Follow Up.

Once the interview is over, make sure you follow up with a thank you note to the hiring manager within a day or two. Thank them for their time and reiterate why you think you are a great fit for the job opportunity.
