How Do I List Temp Work on My Resume?

You’re searching for jobs in Miami Lakes – and you’ve gained plenty of skills and experience through your temp work. But now you’re having trouble figuring out the best way to list it all on your resume. Have no fear! Follow these tips to best highlight your temporary work experience.

Tip #1: Call it what it is.

You might be wondering whether you should call out your temp work as temporary, or just leave it up to the hiring manager to figure out. But if you’ve had 10 different temp assignments in the last two years, you don’t want a potential employer to think you’re a risky job hopper. That’s why it’s important to call out your temporary assignments.

For instance: Temporary Administrative Assistant, ABC Company, January 2016 – March 2016

Tip #2: Group assignments under the same company.

Have you held a few different temporary positions at the same company? You’ll want to highlight each one, but in an organized way that’s easy for a hiring manager to read through. Here’s an example:

XYC Company, Miami, FL

Temporary Administrative Assistant, January 2016 – March 2016

  • Include a few bullets explaining what you did on the job. Be sure to also include any important accomplishments you want to bring to the attention of a hiring manager

Temporary Office Manager, June 2016 – July 2016

  • Assisted with….
  • Oversaw a variety of…

Temporary Project Coordinator, August 2016 – September 2016

  • Responsible for….
  • Worked to ensure that….

Tip #3: Include numbers where you can.

Hiring managers love to see accomplishments and results backed up by real numbers. That’s why, wherever you can, it’s important to quantify the statements you’re making. For instance, “Trained two new administrative assistants during a period of company-wide expansion.”

Tip #4: Highlight the skills that make you a great temp.

Regardless of whether you’re looking for a new temporary assignment, or a full-time job, talk about the skills that would make you a valuable asset to the team. Are you highly flexible? Can you learn computer software quickly? Do you have an easy time adapting to new workplace environments? Demonstrate what makes you a great candidate, and format your experience in a way that’s easy for employers to see at a glance.

Keep in mind, a long list of temporary assignments can potentially be confusing for hiring managers. So it’s up to you to organize them all in an orderly fashion so you can make a great first impression – and get the interview!
