Secondly, if there are any instructions in it in terms of how to apply, it’s important to follow them precisely. If you don’t, it could make you look like you’re not detail-oriented.
Take your time when filling out applications.
Don’t fill out an application in haste just to get it into the hiring manager. You don’t want to move too slowly, but do still take your time and make sure you’re answering each question thoroughly. Beyond that, you want to make sure you don’t skip any questions and that you hand in a completed application.
Activate your network.
Beyond looking for positions online and at career fairs, another great source is your network of friends, family, neighbors and other people in your life. So let them know you’re searching for a new job, what kind of position you’re looking for and whether they’ve heard of any openings.
Don’t quit your current job.
Even if you don’t like your existing job, don’t quit it until you find a new one. A job search can take several months and being unemployed during it adds a new layer of stress. So keep doing your job – and doing it well – until you get a new offer and are ready to resign.
Be patient and persistent.
Looking for a new job can be exciting. However, when you don’t get an offer right away, it can start to get discouraging. Don’t lose hope. A job search takes plenty of patience and persistence, no matter how experienced you are. So stay positive in your search and simply keeping working away at it. A new opportunity will eventually come your way.
