Why Consider Workforce Planning: Part 2

In our last blog post, we talked about workforce planning, what it is, and how your Dade County company can benefit from it. This week, we’ll delve a bit deeper and discuss four steps to implementing such a plan.

Step 1. Your first step in implementing a workforce plan should be to get your company’s management team on board. To do so, though, you need to sell the idea to them using facts and figures to make your case. When developing you presentation, be sure to include the following information:

  • The number of jobs at your company, including whether they are part-time, full-time, or temporary.
  • A projection of future staffing needs based on company short-term and long-term goals. For instance, if your company wants to establish an international presence, then you will probably need to hire a salesperson or a sales team with global sales experience.
  • What your plans are for recruiting. This should include a breakdown of how you plan to fill the need for full-time personnel, as well as temporary help or contract personnel. You should also research Dade County staffing firms if you plan on bringing in a 3rd party to help meet your staffing needs.
  • What you anticipate the costs and time-frame to be for implementing your plan.

Step 2. If you’re given the green light, your next step should be to create a more detailed plan that includes how many people you’ll need to hire; whether they are full-time or temporary employees; any required training programs that the new hires should participate in; any new materials that need to be purchased (computers, printers, etc…); and what your approved budget and deadlines are. If you do decide to work with a Dade County staffing firm, then make sure you communicate your goals and time-lines to them.

Step 3. Your next step should be to create a workforce planning team that consists of employees and managers from each department. Their input in terms of current and future staffing needs and skill gaps will be valuable.

Step 4. Also, set a regular monthly meeting and communicate with your team members on a consistent basis. In addition, send out weekly or monthly communications to the management team, updating them on progress and asking for feedback.
