The #1 Way to Get Employees Engaged

Is employee engagement an important part of your workplace? As one of South Florida’s leading staffing agencies, Future Force knows that if it doesn’t rank that high on your list of priorities as a leader, then you’ve got a problem.

In fact, a new study by Achievers, a provider of employee rewards and recognition software, found that 35% of workers think their employers aren’t inspiring them to do their best work. And it’s estimated that this low rate of employee engagement costs companies about $300 billion a year in lost productivity.

So how can you inspire workers to perform at the top of their game – and improve productivity in the process?

It’s simpler than you think: By recognizing them.

According to the study, only 9% of employee felt they were recognized regularly at work. On the other end of the spectrum, 57% of CEOs felt that employees were recognized regularly. Talk about a gap in perspective!

Regardless, employees clearly feel like they’re not being recognized enough and in fact, “lack of recognition” is one of the biggest reasons workers leave their jobs.

So if employee recognition isn’t even on your radar, then now’s the time to make it a priority. And it’s not as hard as you think. You don’t need a fancy or formal recognition process, complete with expensive gifts and perks. You simply need to:

  • Thank your employee by their name.
  • Tell them specifically what they did that you’re recognizing. Not only will they feel more appreciated that way, but you’ll also reinforce the desired behavior.
  • Explain the impact their accomplishment has on you, their co-workers, and the company.
  • You might also want to call them out in front of their co-workers.

That’s it. So you see, employee recognition doesn’t need a lot of bells and whistles. It simply needs a consistent effort on your part to thank your employees for a job well done. And when you do, you’ll keep them inspired, motivated, and engaged.
