  • Exercise or stretches. Any kind of exercise can be extremely helpful in reducing anxiety. Even a quick walk around the office can help. Gentle stretches are another way to restore peace and calm to your mind.
  • Mindfulness. Stop, close your eyes, and focus on the present moment. Be aware of your body and the sensations you are feeling. You can also hold an object, like an ice cube, and meditate on the way it makes you feel, physically. This engages the senses and gets your mind off your anxiety.

In addition to these grounding techniques, distraction can also be a useful tool to ground your brain and regain your sense of calm and control. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by stress, then take your mind off it by going to lunch with a co-worker or going out for a cup of coffee. If it’s after work, then pick up a book you enjoy, listen to music, or watch a TV show or movie.
